Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (National Research University) has opened an IT lab to train oil and gas professionals in IT. The lab is equipped with R7 Office, a modern Russian platform for collaboration and learning.

The lab was set up with support from R7, one of the leading office software developers.

At the lab, students can learn collaboration tools and office solutions in an environment that closely mirrors real working conditions. In addition to regular courses, the IT lab will host master classes and meetings with R7 experts.

Gubkin University gives its students a strong engineering foundation. For our part, we provide a tool they are certain to encounter in their careers: R7 Office already runs at the country’s largest oil and gas companies. Opening the IT lab is a natural step in our partnership. We want students to work with Russian technologies not occasionally, but as a matter of daily practice. This is a solid foundation for the future, both for them and for the industry as a whole.

Evgeny Shelkovnikov
CEO of R7

Rector Viktor Martynov noted that this year Gubkin University launched three new programs in IT and AI technologies for field development, automated systems in the fuel and energy sector, and innovative oil refining technologies. In addition, under an agreement with Gazprom Neft, the university has begun building a library of digital models to improve production efficiency, focusing on AI and digital twin technologies.

As an industry center of expertise, the university develops educational programs that address not only today’s workforce needs but also the strategic projects of the oil and gas sector, the challenges of tomorrow. Working with industry-leading companies to train specialists is of fundamental importance. We believe students should become familiar with production equipment and software while still at university, so that they arrive at their employers fully prepared to work.

Viktor Martynov
